Chitral flood damages, DC briefs media persons

Chitral— The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chitral, Muhammad Shuaib Jadoon briefed media persons about the scale of damage caused by the recent flood in Chitral. According to detail around 7 people lost their lives in the catastrophic flash floods. 80 houses were collapsed completely and 136 were partially damaged. The floods inflicted heavy loss in terms of livestock as 71 cows and 24 goats were reported dead. 34 valley link roads, 78 water supply schemes, 119 civil irrigation channels, 78 water supply schemes and 64544 trees were badly damaged. The flood also affected 23% of standing crops in Chitral. Media persons were told that 21 micro hydro power houses were also affected.  3 mosques and 2 Jamat Khanas was affected too. 

District administration of the area compensated some affected families on the spot. Rs. 100,000 each was given away among families of the deceased persons. The administration vowed to restore the 38 damaged bridges in a timely manger.  DC Chitral said that his administration had sent a proposal to the provincial government to compensate affected families.

“We have sent a proposal to the provincial government asking to compensate families who have lost their livestock. We have proposed to compensate the herders of cows with Rs. 20,000 and of goats with Rs. 6000.”  DC said.

He said that the administration had distributed 123 tents, 145 food packets, 230 blankets and other goods among the affected people. The deputy commissioner thanked AKRSP, WASEP AKPBS and other NGOs for supporting district administration to help families in tough times.
