General Khalid Rabbani inaugurates Broghol Chitral Road
Chitral— Corps Commander, Lieutenant General Khalid Rabbani inaugurated Mastuj Broghul road, a long-standing issue faced by the people of Broghol. The 140 kilometers long road connects people of Broghol with those in Chitral. In the past, people remained stranded for months in the absence of any road linkage between the two areas. The road completed with the cost of 158.76 million rupees.
The Corps Commander was received by General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General Syed Bukhari at Mastuj helipad. Notables of the area gathered in a local hotel for a brief ceremony. The Qazi of Mastuj gave a welcome speech in which he thanked the Pakistan Army for early completion of the road. He requested the Corps Commander to extend developmental initiatives in the region due to the region’s extreme remoteness. He criticized the Communication and Works (C&W) for their delaying tactics in the completion of Booni-Shandur Road, which he believed was to accumulate commissions on heavy funds embezzlement.
Haji Muhammd Dawood presented Chitrali cloak and cap as souvenir to the Corp commander.
Addressing to the local elites Corp commander Lt Gen Khalid Rabbani said that the road will be a catalyst for developmental network in this neglected and remote region. The General said that he was shocked in his previous visit that people from Broghol reach Chitral in 5 days.
People offered prayers for the soul of Sadiqullah Shaheed, who lost his life on Broghul road during the construction work. In an unfortunate incident, Sadiqullah’s bulldozer fell in a ravine. The Corps Commander presented a cheque worth Rs. 500,000 to the family of Sadiqullah.
The General directed Brigadier Arif of Engineering Corps to complete the remaining portion of the road. He said that he will try to allocate funds in the next annual development plan to
include more developmental schemes for this backward area.
General Rabbani also visited Brughul valley in a military helicopter where he met notables. Local
people requested the General to get the remaining work of 16 Kilometre done as soon as possible.
He directed Deputy Commissioner Chitral Muhammad Shuaib Jadoon to give priority to the people of this region in recruitment of the Border Police and Levy. The Corp Commander also visited headquarters of the Chitral Scouts. He met Commandant CS colonel M. Naeem. During his visit, other than military officials, DC Chitral, XEN C& W and notables of the regions welcome the General.
