Union Council Development Workshop Held in Chitral

Chitral — The Upper Torkho Development Network (UTDN), in collaboration with AKRSP, held a two-day stakeholders workshop on Union Council Development themed as Participatory Planning and Sustainable Development. The workshop was supported by institutional development component of the Hydro Power and Renewable Energy Project.            

Participants brainstormed issues and their possible solutions and shared through group presentations. Hard-hitting topics such as agriculture, live-stock, forests, energy, roads & communication, education, health, water and sanitation, disaster risk reduction were titles of group discussions.

UTDN officials oriented the participants about services the organization is rendering in the area.

Addressing on the occasion Abdul Latif, president of PTI Chitral, stressed upon the participants for positive participation in every developmental work that has prospects of improvement in the lives of the people. He touched upon politics and urged the people to vote for people who are committed, dedicated and honest.

He said that provincial government of KPK has approved to introduce village council concept whereby developmental initiatives will start at the gross-root level and such will be the empowerment of the institutions. He said that 7 billion rupees will be released to SRSP for different developmental schemes in Chitral.

Educationist Javed Hayat briefed the participants about how to path the masses on participatory development. Muhammad Karam Manager of AKPBS said that his organization heavily relies on public awareness and sensitization for the implementation of different initiatives taken up for the social benefit of the public.

Professor Shamsun Nazir highlighted importance of education and health. He said that Education and Health should be the prime target of developmental initiatives as the two areas play key role in other development area

Former MPA Saeed Ahmad and others also spoke on the occasion. Through a resolution the participants demanded from the government to expedite construction of Torkho road and extend the communication network to the entire area of Torko valley.
