Chitral— Residents of Booni arranged a sit-in protest against embezzlement of millions of rupees in Communication and Works Department (C &W), Irrigation, Public Health Engineering and Sarhad Hydro Development Organization (SHYDO).
Addressing to protest sit-in, speakers expressed their concern about misappropriation of millions of rupees by public departments. They said that, in documents, C&W department has shown Mastuj and Torkho road as being blacktop. In reality, the road still remains dilapidated with several ditches all along. Chitral— Environmentalists as well as social circles of Chitral are shocked over shooting on Alpine Ibex by Ibrar Hussain, former minister for environment. The minister while visiting Chitral opened fire on Markhors at Tosh, what authorities call an aerial firing. It is illegal to hunt markhor in Chitral and the law was broken by a man who was supposed to inspire others to protect the environment as well as the law. Chitral—Veteran politician, founder member of Pakistan People’s Party(Chitral), poet, journalist and writer Gul Nawaz Khan Khaki son of Sher Nawaz Khan Khaki of Shahmirandeh Singor passed away at the age of 77. He was ill and passed away in 20 days. Gul Nawaz Khaki was brother of Nawab Khan, Shamsuddin, Sabihuddin and father of Faheemuddin, Safiuddin and Zakauddin. Chitral— Corps Commander, Lieutenant General Khalid Rabbani inaugurated Mastuj Broghul road, a long-standing issue faced by the people of Broghol. The 140 kilometers long road connects people of Broghol with those in Chitral. In the past, people remained stranded for months in the absence of any road linkage between the two areas. Chitral — The Upper Torkho Development Network (UTDN), in collaboration with AKRSP, held a two-day stakeholders workshop on Union Council Development themed as Participatory Planning and Sustainable Development. The workshop was supported by institutional development component of the Hydro Power and Renewable Energy Project.
Participants brainstormed issues and their possible solutions and shared through group presentations. Hard-hitting topics such as agriculture, live-stock, forests, energy, roads & communication, education, health, water and sanitation, disaster risk reduction were titles of group discussions.
