1000 telephone lines damaged by C & W in Chitral

CHITRAL: Some 1000 telephone lines of PTCL have been damaged during the construction of the recent By Pass road in Chitral — a gross negligence on the part of Communication and Works (C &W) division.

A cable supply with 700 connecting lines was damaged last month causing a loss of 2 million rupees to Pakistan Telecommunications Company Limited (PTCL). This, as resulted, has disrupted communication lines for PESCO, Airport area, Met, Office, Civil Aviation, Colleges, Schools, government offices and several households. People are now deprived of the telephone for the last 10 days.

The General Manger of Northern Telecommunications region, Muhammad Khalid has deputed divisional engineer, Gul Zaman who after analyzing the situation has appealed before the District Court of Justice to direct local police to lodge an FIR against the concerned authorities. Asst. Business Manager has claimed that despite his countless applications to the local police, the police has declined to initiate any investigation into the matter. The local community and the notables have demanded the PTCL to restore the communications immediately and take action against the Executive Engineer of C& W for his carelessness and negligence. This story has been reported by G.H. Farooqui from Chitral, Pakistan
