Gilgit Baltistan Reservations, Tax imposition postponed
Gilgit— The Federal Government, on the reservations of Chief Minister, Mehdi Shah, has postponed the decision of imposition of income tax in Gilgit Baltistan for two months. According to details a high level meeting was held in Islamabad. Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo presided over the meeting.
Syed Mehdi Shah,Chief Secretary Sajjad Saleem Hotyana,IGP Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, DG Gilgit Scouts, Additional Secretary Ministry of Defence and other high officials of the relevant department attended the meeting. The reservation of the people of Gilgit Baltistan and the GB Assembly was communicated and it was decided that the tax collection will be started after two months rather than immediately. During this period all necessary steps would be taken to address the reservations of provincial government.
It was also decided that 80% of tax income will be spent for the development of GB — through the Council. While addressing to the meeting .Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo said that Gilgit-Baltistan Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah was working under tough situation and that his team was committed to extend every possible help. The Minister was briefed on the Law & Order situation in the Gilgit-Baltistan region. The meeting was informed that that the culprits of the Kohistan incident had been identified and their arrest warrants had been issued.
The minister constituted a Joint Investigation Team of senior officers of KPK, GB Police and other relevant departments to apprehend the culprits and present them before the courts within a month.
The Minister also directed to notify a high powered ‘Crisis Management Committee’ for Law & Order in GB. The committee will consist, representatives from Federal, KPK, GB Government and the relevant agencies. The committee will meet once in a month to review overall Law & order situation in the region and will take necessary measures to control any uncalled for situation in the region.
