Polo Tournament Started in Chitral
Chitral— Muzafar Ali Khan Memorial Polo Tournament kicked off here in Chitral. President All Pakistan Muslim League, Chitral Shahzada Pervez— who is also supporting the tournament financially— was the chief guest on the occasion of inaugural ceremony.
27 Polo teams will participate in the tournament which has been put together in the memory of late Muzafar Ali, a veteran polo player from the region. He was born in 1923 and passed away in June this year. He is considered one of the greatest players the free-style polo has ever created.
Muzafar was the soul of the worldly renowned Shandur Festival where he won hearts along with several awards and trophies.
His elder son Maqbool Ali Khan, his brother Maqsood Ali Khan and grand son Azhar Ali Khan have been associated with this archaic version of polo for several years – they have kept the game alive all without any financial support whatsoever.
Shahzada Khalid Parvez while talking to this scribe said that the purpose of the tournament was to encourage and support the polo fans here in Chitral.
Polo is considered more than a sport here in Chitral. People here love the game and considered an integral part of their centuries old traditions.
