Wazir Shakeel Threatens Legal Aciton Against Local Media in Gilgit-Baltistan

The law Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan has threatened the local newspapers to take legal action against them for defaming the Ministers of Gilgit-Baltistan with inaccurate information. The law minister claimed that some of the local newspapers are publishing content that defames the government officials and the local ministers.

 The inaccurate publications harm the peace in the region the Minister maintained. “There are some local publications that circulate news without any background investigation. Couple of days ago a news was published with my name by a local media which had nothing to do with me and was altogether baseless” The Minister elaborated to the media at his office.

 There was time the news from Himalayan regions hardly came out. With the rise of the free information, the young journalists, citizen reporters and bloggers of Gilgit-Baltistan have vibrantly exposed the truth which, time and again, stirs concerns among the local authorities. Critics term Wazir Shakeel’s statement part of the course to press the freedom of expression in the region.
