1st T20 Cricket: Pakistan wins by 29 runs
Shahid Afridi led Pakistan to a comfortable victory in the fist T20 Cricket match over Sri Lanka in Colombo on Thursday. Earlier Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. The Greens put up a decent total of 175 runs.
Ahmad Shehzad, Shoib Malik and Umar Akmal played balanced innings scoring 46 runs each. Shahid Afridi could only hit a six at the end of the inning, scoring 8 runs.
Sri Lanka, though, looked a bit shaky in the beginning but Siriwardana and Mathews lit up the crowd in the middle, hitting some exquisite boundaries. Mathews was dismissed by Shoib Malik and Dhananjaya de Silva followed him later. Anwar Ali got him near the boundary bowled by Sohail Tanvir.
The Lankans had their expectations with Perera but he could not live up to their expectation under the pressure when he needed 56 runs with just 22 balls in pocket. He fell victim of Anwar Ali's short ball caught by Rizwan.
It looked all easy then onward. The Sri Lankans went silent and scores of them just kept hitting the fence and scratching their heads despite Kapugedera playing some good shots. Sri Lanka needed 33 runs in the last over. Shoib Malik just remained cool and summed up the game.
Pakistan won by 29 runs with Sohail Tanvir taking the man of the match.
Shahid Afridi continued the success story of Pakistan in Sri Lanka. The captain of Pakistan Test cricket Misbah Ul Haq and the skipper of ODI team -- both have won their series and have brought trophy to Pakistan.
