Power Disruptions in Kohistan, Protesters Block KKH at Pattan

Kohistan: Karakuram Highway (KKH) was blocked by the agitators at Pattan. Hundreds of people from adjoining settlements in Kohistan area gathered at Pattan to stage a protest against the power disruptions in the region.

The protesters chanted anti government slogans and bewailed the authorities for their inefficiency and carelessness. The protest was staged after several appeals to the Peshwar Electric Supply Corporation (PESCO)– by the notables – for immediate resumption of the power supply. But the work on the transformers remained in abeyance. The electricity has been suspended for several months and the authorities told that 6 of the transformers are out of order.

The protesters warned the government that they would block the KKH permanently if their voices are not noticed.  The local administration of Dubair and Pattan has coxed the agitators to end the demonstrations and to take immediate steps for the power supply. The KKH was later opened for traversing traffic. Protests against PESCO seem to rising. Similar Protests have been launched earlier in Chitral against the corporation’s junior employees' injustices.  The corporation is also being alleged for irregularities and corruptions and the Khyber-Pukhtoonkhwan (KP) government recently has been briefed to set a committee to investigate the allegations Wahidullah Kohistani has contributed this story to the Dardistan Times from Kamela, Kohistan.
