Dillon Brooks briefly got into it with LeBron James on Wednesday night, and he didn’t think twice about it.
Why?
“I don’t care, he’s old,” she said.
Brooks and James were teasing each other in the second half of the game. Brooks shoved James briefly in the third quarter, then started celebrating in his face as time expired. Brooks drilled a 3-pointer over James in the fourth quarter and stared him down as they returned to the other end of the floor.
Brooks finished with 12 points in the win and shot 5-of-14 from the field. James, on the other hand, dropped 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Lakers.
While it’s certainly a bold decision to stare down one of the greatest players to ever play the game the way Brooks did, he’s better than that. Not only does he think that’s his role, but James has yet to drop 40 points.
“I punch bears,” Brooks said. “I won’t respect anybody until they come and give me 40.”
Brooks didn’t stop there either. “That would have been a tough task,” he said, adding that he would have had the opportunity to guard James when he played for the Miami Heat or Cleveland Cavaliers.
James, who is 38 years old and in the final stages of his career, already has five 40-point games this season. He is averaging 28.9 points this season, his fifth-highest scoring output in his 20 seasons in the league.
After Brooks’ comments, don’t be surprised if he makes another speech at the Crypto.com Arena on Saturday.
